Pelvic health in San Diego

Pelvic health care in a studio that moves

Dune is a physical therapy practice for women of all ages, from first-time moms to marathon runners. See a physical therapist for your evaluation, then keep moving in our classes.

Who we see

What brings people to Dune

You do not need to know what is wrong before you call.

  • Bladder and bowel

Leaking when you cough or run, urgency, and trips to the bathroom that plan your day.

    Bladder and bowel
  • Pregnancy and postpartum

Support while you are expecting and as you rebuild strength after birth, however it went.

    Pregnancy and postpartum
  • Pelvic pain

Pain with sex, with sitting, or in the tailbone, hips and low belly, and what to do about it together.

    Pelvic pain
  • Athletes

Runners, lifters and players who leak, feel pressure, or want a plan for load.

    Athletes
  • Midlife and menopause

Changes in bladder, comfort and strength that come with the years, and a way to meet them.

  • After surgery

Rebuilding strength and comfort after a cesarean birth, a hysterectomy or other pelvic or abdominal surgery.

Your evaluation

One hour, four steps, all at your pace

A physical therapist, a private room and time to talk.

  1. Step 1: You tell us what is going on

We start with a conversation. Take your time. There are no wrong words, and you set how much you share.

  2. Step 2: We look at how you move

Posture, breathing, hips, back and core, in comfortable clothes, in the studio's own space.

  3. Step 3: An internal exam, only if you want one

It is never required and never a surprise. We explain it first, ask before each step, and stop whenever you say.

  4. Step 4: We agree on a plan

We tell you what we found in plain words and what we suggest. You choose what to do next, and leave with a few exercises for home and a place in a class if you would like one.

The studio

A room to move in, not just to wait in

Your evaluation happens in a private room. When you are ready for more, the studio is steps away: mats, balls and bands, with the same people who know your plan.

  • Private rooms for every evaluation

  • Small classes on mats, not machines

  • Women of all ages, and athletes of every kind

Questions people ask first

Do I need a referral?

In California, you can see a physical therapist without a referral. Your plan may still ask for one. Call us with your plan card and we will check before you book.

Will I need an internal exam?

Only if you want one, and never at a first visit by default. We explain what it is, ask before each step, and stop the moment you say so. Many evaluations are a conversation and a look at how you move.

Does my plan cover this, and do you take Medicare?

We bill many kinds of plans, including most PPO plans, Medicare, workers' compensation and auto injury coverage. Your plan decides what it pays. We check your benefits and call you before your first visit.

What if I pay myself?

We give you a written estimate before your first visit, and you pay for each visit on the day. If your plan may reimburse you, we give you a detailed receipt to send in. Your plan decides whether it pays.

How long is a visit, and who treats me?

Your first visit is about an hour with a physical therapist, in a private room. Later visits can be shorter. You see the same therapist, and you can ask for a particular one.
