Care

Bladder and bowel

Leaking, urgency and bathroom trips that plan your day are common. You do not have to plan around them in silence.

What it can look like

People come to us when a cough, a jump or a sneeze leaves them wet, when the urge arrives with no warning, or when constipation and straining have become part of the week. Pelvic floor physical therapy looks at the muscles, the breathing and the habits behind it.

  • Leaking with a cough, a laugh or a run

  • A sudden need to go, and a map of every bathroom

  • Straining, or a feeling of not being finished

  • A heavy or dragging feeling low in the pelvis

What happens

How we work with you

  • We listen first

We ask about your days, your drinks and your habits, and nothing is off the table or required.

  • We look at how you move

Breathing, posture, hips, back and core, in comfortable clothes. An internal exam only if you want one.

  • You choose the plan

We explain what we found and suggest exercises and changes. You decide what to try.

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, a sudden severe headache or pain, new weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or a fall with a head injury needs emergency care now. Call 911.

Questions about this

Will I need an internal exam?

Only if you want one, and never at a first visit by default. We explain what it is, ask before each step, and stop the moment you say so. Many evaluations are a conversation and a look at how you move.

Do I need a referral?

In California, you can see a physical therapist without a referral. Your plan may still ask for one. Call us with your plan card and we will check before you book.

How long is a visit, and who treats me?

Your first visit is about an hour with a physical therapist, in a private room. Later visits can be shorter. You see the same therapist, and you can ask for a particular one.
